DARINEL DRAGONHUNTER by Antje Hergt gets LADYBUGGED

Darinel_Dragonhu_515a3ec4e3831.jpg
Darinel is a prince...the first born, heir to the throne he wants nothing to do with...he wants to find a place where violence and conquering are not the order of the realm.

Knowing he will be banished...the throne handed to his younger brother,

Darinel turns his back on his birth-rite and his father's commands that he "shape-up"...Darinel sets off to find a kingdom run by a kinder, more benevolent monarch.

It is not an easy journey. There are places so filled with mistrust, he barely makes it out alive. It's a big world so it takes him such a long time when he sees the huge shadow flying over him, just outside the kingdom he knows he's been looking for.

HOWEVER, he will learn that shadow is a

dragon in need of slaying, according to the benevolent monarch he's found...oh and if he wants to wed the beautiful princess he holds in great esteem, the head of the dragon is the price.

I'm not going to do a spoiler and tell you what happens, but the story will grab you, and have you cheering for our hero and our heroin. I WILL say,

Hans Christian Andersen has NOTHING on

DARINEL DRAGONHUNTER is a captivating story written for the young, but also for those like me...not young, chronologically, but young where it counts, inside my heart.

FIVE GLITTERING STARS I give this heartwarming story of magic, compassion, and honor.

Thank you

THE BOOK OF HELEN by Sherry G. Antonetti gets LADYBUGGED

WOW!!

This book is s-o-o-o-o-o good I haven't a clue where to begin with creating my review for this book...and believe me, THAT'S rare!
The_Book_of_Hele_512bd44cbe7cb.jpg
While I was reading THE BOOK OF HELEN, I was so deeply caught up by Sherry G. Antonetti's writing skills, I started growling like a

lioness protecting her babies whenever I got hungry or had to make a trip for Nature's annoyances, I was THAT glued to my

e-reader. It literally takes your breath away, squeezes tightly on every nerve ending inside your body until it almost hurts, only to hurtle air back into your lungs with one mighty slam...and does it over and over again!

I thought I knew all there was to know about the Face-That-Launched-A-Thousand-Ships...

HELEN OF TROY, but boy howdy, was I wrong.

THE BOOK OF HELEN takes us past Troy, starting where she's now a widow...a widow her step-sons, born to her husband's mistress, are exiling so they can take over the crown HER father gave to THEIR father when he married Helen so long ago.

There are so many

surprises and it's told with such compassion and intrigue. Helen may be a capricious, sometimes arrogant, and yes, self-indulgent woman, and we should hate her, but she's SO MUCH MORE!
The_Book_of_Hele_512bd44cbe7cb.jpg
It's the MORE Sherry G. Antonetti tells with such panache and spirit.

FIVE STARS...How I WISH I could give it more.

And to Sherry G. Antonetti...again you are...

WOW!!

KATE AND THE KID by Anne Rothman-Hicks and Kenneth Hicks gets LADYBUGGED

What a powerful surprise this book proved to be.

Kate is suddenly jobless...her employer closes down, leaving his employees jobless and somewhat reeling in spite of the paltry severance pay.

Into this upheaval Kate meets Jenny and her one armed doll named Miranda. Jenny is a shy child living across the hall from Kate, and in need of a good bath, or so she thinks.

Through many quirks of fate...(and no...I don't do spoilers, so will not enumerate them here)...Kate ends up giving sanctuary to the child, setting off many events that left me on the edge of my seat with a heart so deeply involved in the story I felt all the emotions you can imagine. You end up cheering, gasping, angry, terrified, and ultimately...dazed with a deep seated sense of awe.

This book gives you growth of spirit, heart, soul, and wisdom. Four people...not one, or the usual two...NO...FOUR PEOPLE will grow...some glaringly so...some...Dear God, but you hope so.

I HAVE to give KATE AND THE KID

FIVE STARS for the riveting tale Anne Rothman-Hicks and her collaborator  Kenneth Hicks have given us.

WELL DONE YOU TWO...I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE!

THE CURSE OF KING RAMSSES II by Victoria Roder gets LADYBUGGED

Mummies can be pretty scary things when you're a child and worry about the curses attached to them.

Mia's mom works for the museum in her area that's hosting the Egyptian Exhibit of Ramsses II. She's already determined not to go near the exhibit...but then she overhears two women talking about having seen, for themselves, Ramsses rising during the night and there's a whole lot of bone-chilling things going on.

Certain her mother and everyone else at the museum is in danger, she's really upset when no one takes her warnings seriously. With her best friend she decides to camp out over night and catch the great Ramsses rising from his

sarcophagus by taking pictures and videos to prove the Pharaoh is haunting the museum after hours.

There is much to learn in this tale of Ancient Curses and a daughter's determination to rise above her own fear to protect those she loves and is certain are in imminent danger.

THE CURSE OF RAMSSES II is an excellent book for the middle school reader and would make a fantastic supplemental read for anyone teaching English or Ancient history.

FOUR AND A HALF TREMBLING STARS, I,

Ladybug Lin, award this book, and strongly urge

Ms. Victoria Roder to go to her local schools and introduce the teaching staff to her THE CURSE OF RAMSSES II tale. I have a feeling it will become staple for many a future lesson plan.

COP AND A WAND by James Hartley gets LADYBUGGED

LADYBUG LIN here...

COP WITH A WAND

Firebolts...stun spells...

handcuffs...police shields...and grey men...oh my...this is

James Hartley's idea of a police procedural. And one other thing...a

WAND...not a scanner wand, but a bonafied witch wand.

Now there weren't any brooms in this story, but you really didn't need them since you have

portals between dimension instead!

I am an avid fan of James Hartley, my personal KING OF ALL THINGS REMOTELY WITCHERY.

This is a tale of a female cop whose about to wake up BIG TIME to the fact she's a really

powerful witch...and she joins the local coven that now has her back. She also, luckily, has two police chiefs who believe in her skills enough to follow her lead as things get really screwy.

Since I've admitted I'm an avid James Hartley fan, you've probably guessed this is NOT my first James Hartley read. I've gotten to see his talents expand with each new story he writes, so trust me when I say he is the KING OF ALL THINGS REMOTELY WITCHERY.

To the King, in honor of this book COP WITH A WAND, I am serving up

FIVE STARS...

and tossing a crisp WELL DONE, King Hartley's way!
