DOROTHY'S DAYDREAMS OF OZ by James Hartley is in the Ladybug Lin HOT SEAT!

James Hartley is a man with a warped mind, and this Ladybug LOVES IT!...So will you!

Every time I read a new short story by Mr. Hartley, I am awed by his ability to take stories we grew up with and create fresh fantasies surrounding them.

In DOROTHY'S DAYDREAMS OF OZ no one believes her tales of the yellow brick road, the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Glinda, The Cowardly Lion, the Wizard, or any of the other lives Dorothy remembers. (Who among us can forget the wee Munchkins?)

Things are bad back in Kansas. The storm that catapulted Dorothy to the Magical Land of Oz created hardships...too many to listen to the wild tales of a child...especially her aunt and uncle who dismiss her stories as nothing more than the ravings of a child with a bump on her head...all too quickly convincing Dorothy it must have been nothing more than a dream...But what if it wasn't?

DOROTHY'S DAYDREAMS OF OZ is a fast read that will challenge all of us who grew up on Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow adventure. The movie stops with Dorothy clicking those ruby red shoes while saying "There's no place like home!"

James Hartley reveals what happened to that brave little girl AFTER she's back in the arms of Auntie Em.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS for Mr. Hartley...

Why not five...Didn't the evil neighbor get swept away while riding her bicycle? And what of the

Ruby Red Slippers? Didn't they come back to Kansas with her? Wouldn't they at least make her aunt and uncle OPEN to the idea? Those are my only questions that aren't covered in your story.

The Ruby Slippers did not come back to Kansas with Dorothy. In Baum's original book they fell off and were lost somewhere over the Deadly Desert. They didn't make it back in the movie, either.

But we do know what happened to them ... if you watch the TV show "Charmed," there was an episode devoted to Fairy Tales, and the Ruby Slippers were in the Fairy Tale Museum!
